Che Bella Firenze

One of the good part of being volunteer is having friends from different nations and travelling all together. Villa Buri which is just fifteen minutes away by bike from Verona center has volunteers there for three months who are helping cleaning and planting in the park. There are three volunteers now; one  russian girl Giulia, one turkish girl Derya and canadian girl Clarize.

We visited Firenze all together. Firenze one of the most popular city is in toscany region in Italy.  If you think to go to firenze in summer you should not forget to book an hostel before you go. In this period there are lots of turists and all hostels are full for weekend otherwise you have to search for three hours like us. In my opinion the other important thing not to forget is to book the seat for the train as well. Otherwise, you will find yourself sleeping on the floor inthe regional train. Even if our trip seems a bit like a disaster because of the transportation and accomodation problems  we had a lot of fun.

Firenze is full of atraction with lots of museums, churchs, cahtedrals and beautiful streets and squares where you can see live shows during the day. When our departure day arrived we didn’t want to leave the city.

We had the chance to see some of them, because we had a short time and also the entrances were expensive.

We visited Piazza della Signoria where you have the chance to see some free statues. One of the most important work of Michelangelo a copy of David is reproduce there.

The Palazzo Vecchio was built for goverment offices. It’s worth to see. if you have the chance to get a private tour. You will also enter to secret passages of the palace.

İn Ponte vecchio, you will find a lot of shops. Mostly there are jewelery shops. The bridge remains like during the mediavel times. It has a magical atmospher, from the bridge you have a beautiful view of the city.

Unfortunatly, I couldn’t seethe  Galeria Dell’ Academia; it is one of the places that you should see. It contains important sculptures and paintings of famous artists.

After visited all the places by foot  we found a really cool place to rest, Piazza s. Maria Novella, a big green area. It is a place where you can find live music during the day. We brought some food and vine there.  We had a great dinner on the grass. We talked a lot, laughed a lot and enjoyed with Firenze.

Torricelle; a part of the volunteering work

Torricelle takes place at the left part of the Adige river. This beautiful  Park includes historical and naturalistical places where you can find walls from medieval times, venetian and austrian fortifications. Since 2005, the association Comıtato per il Verde has taking care of the maintenance and promotion of the torricelle and we as volunteers are a part in this chain for nine months.

We go to torricelle twice in a week on the mornings. We cut the grasses, take care of the plants and clean the area. We are not alone while we are working. There is a responsible of the park,Aldo who shows  us how to use the tools, what is the plan of the day. There are also people who do civil service at the same time as us. It’s a good practice if you want to do your own garden one day. In Torricelle there are plenty of plants, you will learn the types of them. I am sure this experience will help you to have an idea how things work about gardening.

We have the chance to meet citiziens as well  who come for a walk,to do sport or take their dogs for a walk in Torricelle. They are all friendly people with a smiley face and they also help to take care of the park by telling if every thing is ok or if there is something unusual in the park.

When  you finished working in Torricelle, probably there is lunch at home waiting for you. After lunch you should take a nap and you will start an awsome day without stress.

Volunteer from Turkey

Waking up in the morning and asking to your room mate who is from Portugal, is it yedi? (means seven)

Waiting at the red light and deciding to cross when it is still red (usually we don't wait too much in Turkey) You can hear an italian person yelling at you '' e rossoo!!"

While you are walking on the street people try to talk with you and you don't understand anything.

Trying to use some italian words that you like peroo, allora, facciamo cosi....

Going by bremach with Aldo and other volunteers to the Torricelle  to take of it in bumpy ways.

Eating italian ice cream, tasting italian wines and cheeses.

Walking on the streets of Verona where you can find history and art together and learning the history of it.

I am the Turkish girl who is doing volunteering in Santa Marta a place is full of moschitos during the summer. Even if they bite me. This is the most beautiful experience that I 've ever had.
